Scram Software: The Cyber Swat Guards

CIO VendorLinus Chang, Director
Over the years, theft and leakage of confidential and critical data has been a growing concern for every industry. This has increased organizations’ challenges to detect and block these enhanced and coordinated cybersecurity attacks and build an organizational security boundary. Scram Software meets these requirements by providing organizations with encryption technologies to safeguard their sensitive data, thereby protecting them from data leaks and sabotage.

Scram’s solutions are lightweight, versatile, and simple to implement. They scale to meet varying needs, from small businesses all the way to large enterprises. “Our firm’s flagship technology makes it easy to encrypt data stored at rest and in use, whether locally or in the cloud,” says Linus Chang, Director of Scram Software. To achieve confidentiality in the cloud, all data is encrypted locally (on users’ computers) before it is transferred to cloud storage. Only the user controls the encryption key—meaning that the cloud provider cannot read the users’ data, nor can any man in the middle.

“We know many people think encryption is difficult and cumbersome, so our challenge is to make security easy at all levels of an organization,” says Chang. The firm’s GUI applications like ScramExplorer and ScramBox allows non-technical users to encrypt sensitive data automatically and without effort. System administrators can use the ScramFS CLI (command line interface) to execute tasks such as encrypting database backups and system logs.

World-class cryptographic security doesn't need to be expensive or difficult to implement—as we’ve proven with ScramFS

Further, software developers can add encryption to their applications using the ScramFS API(application programming interface), thus protecting the confidentiality and integrity (detecting unauthorized changes) of customer data in business and custom applications.

The backbone of all these technologies is ScramFS, the world’s first software-based, cloud-friendly, cross-platform, and high performance encrypted file system. It transparently encrypts all data passing through it, between the application and storage. ScramFS acts as a magical black box to the user that does the encryption and decryption automatically. “World-class cryptographic security doesn't need to be expensive or difficult to implement—as we’ve proven with ScramFS,” adds Chang.

Chang believes that many crypto systems produced are not “long-term secure” because they use encryption techniques that will be breakable by quantum computers— estimated to be powerful enough by 2029. Scram’s crypto systems leverage “quantum resistant” encryption techniques with its careful design. The firm took a vastly different approach to R&D—one based on top-level expertise and transparency. “We had our systems designed by one of the world’s top cryptographers, Ron Steinfeld, and then had it peer reviewed by three additional world experts in cryptography and file system security,” adds Chang.

Scram Software’s vision is to secure the world’s data in the cloud. The end goal is mitigating advanced attackers and persistent threats, while helping organizations achieve compliance with international regulations such as GDPR, HIPAA, and PDPA. Recently, the company released ScramFS into beta testing after three years of research and development, with a public launch in Q1 of 2018. “ScramFS makes post-quantum secure file encryption available to SMBs and SMEs around the world, and we have an exciting pipeline of further products for 2018,” informs Chang. In the near future, apart from widening its global market foothold, the firm is also focused on building the next generation of security products.
